MandarinClips is a non-profit, educational search engine and linguistic research platform designed to assist non-native speakers in learning the Chinese language. The extremely short video snippets (typically 1 to 5 seconds long) indexed on this platform are used strictly under the Fair Use doctrine of United States Copyright Law (17 U.S.C. Section 107) and equivalent provisions under international treaties.

We believe our indexation of these short segments qualifies for Fair Use based on the following factors:

• Transformative Character: We transform static media into interactive language exercises, enriching them with pinyin annotation, contextual lookups, and HSK vocabulary tagging.
• De Minimis Portion: We only extract a single sentence-sized dialogue segment at a time. We never host or stream full-length episodes, films, or substantial portions of any copyrighted work.
• No Market Effect: MandarinClips does not compete with or replace the commercial market value of the original films or television series. In fact, our platform acts as a discovery engine, encouraging users to find and support the original creators.

We deeply respect intellectual property rights. If you are a copyright holder and believe that any clip indexed on MandarinClips infringes upon your copyright, you may submit a formal takedown request.

3. Host and Server Limitations

MandarinClips does not host full-length theatrical releases or broadcasts. The metadata, subtitles, and transient clip segments are curated strictly as educational quotations.
