1997年，元龙里小区一对父女在电梯口离奇消失。刑警何远航（潘粤明 饰）带新晋警员冉方旭（王鹤棣 饰）受命调查。冉方旭经侦查后认定失踪父女是为躲债故弄玄虚。经此一案，冉方旭崭露头角，何远航则因能力有限事业原地踏步。 2006年，徐父尸体被意外发现，推翻旧案结论。师徒再次搭档锁定嫌犯，但在追捕中嫌犯身亡，何远航受重伤，虽立功却被调至内勤。离开刑警岗位的何远航郁郁寡欢，与叛逆女儿何晓荷（任敏 饰）矛盾不断。2008年，冉方旭车祸身亡，何晓荷决心继承其遗志。 2018年，何远航退休，何晓荷成为刑警。两人偶然发现冉方旭的死竟与元龙里旧案有关。父女接力侦查，在元龙里即将拆迁之际，终于将隐匿18年的真凶绳之以法。
